Claims that a “fabulous” treasure hoard was discovered by patrolling Park Rangers in the Parque Nacional Isla del Coco, a small island off the coast of Costa Rica. The island does not allow inhabitants and the only people living on the island are park rangers. The rumours trace back to an article on World News Daily Report that reads in part –
A group of Costa Rican park rangers patrolling in the Parque Nacional Isla del Coco after a recent storm, have discovered one of the most amazing treasure hoards in modern history. The treasure consists of gold and silver coins and ingots, jewellery, candlesticks and religious items, and is estimated to be worth almost 200,000,000$.
However the rumours are false. No such discovery has been reported and the photo of the apparent buried treasure seems to come from a TripAdvisor photo album uploaded in 2011 from Key West.
